MESSAGE TO THE VIEWER

I welcome contact from those curious about my art work, and those with projects with which they need help. I believe I am capable of much more than what I have been able to represent so far on my website. As you can see, I am a stone and steel sculptor, a designer in 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional work, and a fabricator. I love challenges and collaborations with other artists and clients. Call, text, or send an email to have a conversation about what’s possible!

ARTIST STATEMENT

I grew up with my twin sister, Karen, which was an extraordinary gift in so many ways. She was the first evidence of my connectedness with something outside of myself; evidence that came from our obvious shared appearance, interests, thoughts and feelings. In her, I saw that I was the same, but different; me, but her as well. Our sisterhood provided me the feeling that I was never alone in the world, and as I grew older, I awakened to the reality, that I am connected to everyone and all things.

This notion of underlying connectedness became a natural expression in my work. Through sculpting, energy and intention take the form of something familiar, accessible, and tangible. Through sculpture, we see our connectivity to others, our importance and relatedness, our mutual humanness, and create from nothing, and everything, the absence of aloneness, the joining of self to the whole.

BIO

Keith received her BFA at Marshall University, in Huntington, West Virginia in 1996. In 1997, she moved to Arizona, and began an 18 year career in graphic/environmental graphic design. Because her job centered around a 3D form of design, her professional work began to influence her personal artistic expression, and the familiar painting and drawing, as she had practiced all of her life, transformed into an interest in sculpture.

In the year 2000, she picked up a hammer and chisel and began to sculpt stone with intention, and subsequently had her first solo show in 2002 at the former Paulina Miller Gallery in downtown Phoenix. Sculpting came naturally and proved to be a fulfilling form of expression. For several years she balanced a full time job, a home remodel she tackled herself, and a sculpting hobby to which she wanted to give much more of her attention.

During those years, she also learned to mig weld to assist in her home remodel, making functional items such as steel fencing, gates, sliding doors, and furniture. While knowing how to work with steel was a valuable and practical skill, it also became an opening in the world of possibility for her sculpting practice.

In 2014, Keith shifted her life to allow for more time dedicated to her art and steel fabrication practice. She became a member of eye lounge, and artist-run, collective and contemporary art space, which provided an opportunity for showing her work and having more exposure in the Phoenix art community. She also began taking on design and fabrication projects for clients, as well as co-design and fabrication of public art projects with an established local artist.

Currently, she lives in Patagonia, Arizona, and her focus is on building her body of work to show and sell, taking on more challenging projects in steel fabrication and design, and welcoming opportunities to collaborate with other fine-artists, public artists, and welders.
